On October 15, 17:45-20:00, we will screen the filmGaga 哈勇家(Laha Mebow 陳潔瑤, 2022) portraying the turbulent life of an Atayal family and their indigenous community in northeastern Taiwan.

On October 16, 17:00-20:00, we will show „Days Before the Millenium 徘徊年代 (Chang Teng-Yuan 張騰元, 2021), a film on the difficult lives of Vietnamese immigrant brides in rural Taiwan in the 1990s and in 21st century urban Taiwan.

On November 6, 17:00-18:30, Prof. Ho I-Fan 何一梵 (Taipei National University of the Arts) who specializes in dramaturgy will give a guest lecture on his collaboration with Our Theatre (阮劇團) in adapting Kevin Chen’s novel “Ghost Town 鬼地方 (Geisterdämmerung)” into a stage production.

On November 27, 18:30-20:00, Prof. Henning Klöter (Humboldt University Berlin), a renowned expert on language policy in Taiwan will give a guest lecture on “Audible and visible multilingualism in Taiwan”.

On December 10, 17:45-20.00, we will watch “The Time to Live and the Time to Die” (Hou Hsiao-hsien 侯孝賢, 1985), inspired by the director’s memories of growing up in an immigrant Hakka family near Kaohsiung.

On December 11, 17:00-18.30., Prof. Ralf Vollmann (University of Graz) specializing in the sociolinguistics of Hakka 客家 will give a guest lecture on „The Hakka language and Taiwan”.

All events of the Vienna Taiwan Lecture Series and the Vienna Taiwan Film Screenings of this semester will be held in seminar room SIN 1, Department of East Asian Studies /Chinese Studies, Spitalgasse 2, Hof 2, entrance 2.3.
